KARACHI: IBA staff named as accused: FIR registered

KARACHI, Dec 13: The Director of the Institute of Business Administration, Karachi, Dr Javed Ashraf, lodged on Thursday an FIR at Mubina Town police station against unidentified persons for alleged irregularities in the entrance test for admission to government medical colleges in the province.
The complainant, the IBA director, has attached a list of the staff of the departments concerned of the IBA with the FIR.
The test was conducted on Nov 15 by the IBA.
The FIR was registered following an announcement by the provincial health department that the results of the IBA test had been cancelled.
An official of Mubina Town police station said the FIR (No 97/2001) was registered under sections 420/406/468 and 409/34 of PPC on a directive from the governor’s house.
He said that complainant, the director of the IBA, had accused the staff of his own institution of irregularities.
The SHO Mubina Town was the inquiry officer of the case, said a candidate, Kavita, who had appeared in the Nov 15 test from Mirpurkhas.
She wrote to the director about sighting at least three cases of irregularities in the test.
Subsequently, 750,000 candidates were given another test and again at least 34 cases of irregularities had been detected, the SHO said.
The irregularities were committed by using fake IBA stamps, the inquiry officer said.
However, no arrest had so far been made in this connection, he added.
When contacted for comments, the IBA director, Dr Javed Ashraf, refused to talk on the issue, saying “at the moment he is unable to speak out. For the present, the government’s handout should be referred to for all purposes.”
He even refrained from disclosing the details of his complaint registered with police.
