CHAMAN, Dec 12: Governor Kandahar, Gul Agha, has announced that de-weaponisation and restoration of peace and order in the province is his top priority and soon a squad of 300 policemen would be deployed in the city.

Speaking at a press conference in Governor House Kandahar on Wednesday, he said all possible steps would be taken to ensure security to the people and supremacy of law.

He said the new administration had decided to disarm different groups and common people. A campaign had been started in the province, including the border town of Spin Boldak, in this connection, he added.

“We would not allow any group or person to possess weapons,” he told the press conference.

Replying to a question, he said he had taken serious notice of different checkpoints set up between Spin Boldak and Kandahar by different tribal groups. He said he had issued instructions for the removal of all such unnecessary checkpoints.

“No person and group has the right to establish checkpoints anywhere,” Gul Agha clarified, adding that if such kiosks were not dismantled, the government would do so by force.
