KABUL, Dec 12: Television crews halted live broadcasts from the rooftop of Kabul’s Intercontinental Hotel on Wednesday after bullets flew over their heads, journalists based there said.

A reporter for Sky News was in the middle of a live transmission on the rooftop, which commands a panoramic view of Kabul, when one of the Sky crew heard bullets whistle past.

The same thing happened about an hour later during a second Sky broadcast, said Peter Rudden, a member of the Reuters Television team in the hotel.

“No one was injured and it was not clear where the shooting came from,” Rudden said. “Because of the shooting, all international broadcasters based at the hotel have pulled out of all the lives (live broadcasts).”

It was not clear whether the gunfire had been deliberately aimed at the roof of the hilltop hotel, a base for foreign journalists.—Reuters
