APNS slams burning of newspapers offices

KARACHI, Dec 11: Kazi Asad Abid, the APNS secretary-general, has condemned the mysterious burning of the offices of daily Balochistan Times and daily Zamana, situated on I.I. Chundrigar Road here, and noted with concern that the incident appeared as an act of harassment of the newspapers.

Earlier, in Hyderabad, the offices of daily Ummat and NNI news agency were also attacked and ransacked by a group of miscreants, but no action had been taken by the administration, he said. He lamented that violence against the press had become a routine in Sindh.

The APNS secretary-general expressed his sympathy and solidarity with Syed Fasih Iqbal, publisher of daily Balochistan Times and Zamana, Quetta, and urged the Sindh government to initiate an inquiry to ascertain the nature of the selective burning of the offices of newspapers and apprehend the culprits involved in this heinous crime.
