KARACHI, Dec 9: The chief of the Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party, Dr Qadir Magsi, who is also the provincial chief of the Pakistan Oppressed Nations Movement, has said attempts to secede Karachi city from Sindh has failed.
Speaking at an Iftar party held in his honour by the Karachi chapter of the STPP on Sunday, he recalled the events that had shaken the province in the recent past, saying under a systematic plan innocent people had been killed on the basis of ethnicity so as to pave the way for the division of Sindh.
Not only that, he said, kachchi abadis had been set up within the city where people from other provinces had been settled who were instrumental in promoting the culture of land-grabbing and other crimes.
The STPP leader declared that Sindh could not be divided on ethnic basis because Karachi city had been an integral part of the province for centuries, and history had once again defeated those forces who wanted to divide it.
He claimed that conditions in Sindh in 1947 were far better than today, saying Sindh’s resources had been usurped and “it is being treated as a colony by the Punjab establishment.”
