Two cops suspended for torture

GILGIT, Dec 7: Authorities have suspended two cops Muhammad Alam and Abdullah of Gilgit city police station for the alleged torturing of four detainees.

Sources said that police arrested Maqbool Hussain s/o Shero, Razique Hussain s/o Aman Ali and Syed Alam s/o Ghulam Raza from Sajjadia Muhallah over a reported bickering with the police when they raided the area in search of one Manzoor Hussain s/o Shero.

The relatives of the detainees said that the police arrested Manzoor Hussain on the complaint of the district council chairman, Gilgit, when the former exchanged hot words with him over a minor issue.

The relatives of the detainees alleged that the victims sustained internal injuries as they were beaten up with iron rods, and one Razique Hussain, was found with his arms broken at two points.

Sources said that on the intervention of the Army Monitoring Cell officials, the detainees were released from the police custody and admitted to DHQ hospital, Gilgit.

The victims’ relatives have demanded action against the SHO city police station for his involvement in the detainees’ torture.
