KARACHI: Procession taken out to mark Yaum-i-Ali

KARACHI, Dec 7: Yaum-i-Ali, Hazrat Ali’s martyrdom day, was observed in the city on Friday with religious reverence.

The central programme of the day was held at Nishtar Park, where a Majlis was held. The traditional procession was taken out from Nishtar Park, which adopted a new route, effective from this year.

According to the revised route, the procession took Sir Shahnawaz Bhutto Road and came onto M.A. Jinnah Road. Passing through Saddar via Mansfield Street, it again appeared on M.A. Jinnah Road. It reached its culmination point at Hussainiyan Iranian in Kharadar via Boulton Market and Nawab Mahabat Khanji Road.

The traffic police made alternative arrangements to divert the traffic. As it was a working day, despite alternative arrangements, the motorists faced difficulties in reaching their destinations because of rush on the designated roads.

The procession passed through its new route peacefully.

On all its way, the processionists recited Salam. Religious scholars paid homage to the fourth Caliph of Islam, who was martyred in the holy month of Ramazan.

Various organizations had arranged special programmes on the occasion and the electronic media had also prepared special programmes to mark the day. —APP
