KARACHI, Dec 6: A young man was shot dead in what the police claimed an encounter with bandits in Teen Hatti on late Wednesday night.

The police said that on a lead provided by a suspect a police party raided a house in Pakistan Quarters, Teen Hatti. During the raid, suspects present in the house opened fire at the police, and the police party returned the fire in which Tanveer, aged 22, was killed. His two accomplices, Kashif and Asif, escaped.

Tanveer’s body was sent to Civil Hospital for post-mortem, the police said.

ROAD ACCIDENTS: A young girl and two boys died in road accidents in the city on Thursday.

A young girl died when her car overturned on Korangi Expressway. The police said that Sharmeen, aged 22, was driving her car (W-8026) when it hit against an electric pole and overturned.

She was rushed to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre in a serious condition where she died. The girl’s family took away the body before the Korangi Industrial Area police arrived at the hospital.

Sharmeen was a resident of PECHS, the police said.

A nine-year-old boy died in a road accident in Federal B-Area. The police said that Osama Khalid was knocked down by an unidentified vehicle in Joharabad. He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

A 10-year-old boy was run over by an unidentified vehicle in New Karachi in night. Sources at Civil Hospital said that the boy remained unidentified who had been brought to the hospital by a bus driver in the night.

SUICIDE: A young housewife committed suicide in Chakiwara on Thursday. The police said that Gulab Jan, aged 22, was married to Ghulam Qadir, a pickup driver. Because of continual mistreatment by her inlaws, Gulab Jan sprinkled kerosene on her body and set herself on fire.

She was rushed to Civil Hospital where she died.

SHOT DEAD: An unidentified man was found dead in Sector 10 in Orangi Town, with a bullet wound to his chest, the police said. The body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem. The police could not immediately ascertain the motive behind the killing.
