KARACHI: Stern action against carjackers ordered: District ACLCs planned
KARACHI, Nov 27: Sindh governor Mohammedmian Soomro on Tuesday directed the inspector general of police and the home secretary to issue instructions to the DIGs, SSPs, and down to the level of police stations to take special measures against anti-social elements.
For this purpose he stressed the need for an effective coordination between Nazims, elected representatives and police.
Presiding over a meeting of the Sindh cabinet at the new Sindh secretariat, the governor stressed action to eliminate car and motorcycle thefts and kidnappings for ransom. In this regard he emphasised the need for a more effective intelligence network.
The governor said that the car-stealing business had assumed critical dimension over the period of time and the only viable and effective option to phase out the menace lied in seeking cooperation of the community.
He called for smashing the network of criminals, particularly the lifters of vehicles through special measures. He also called for efforts to eliminate the root causes of this crime.
The governor issued directive for province-wide action against gambling, narcotics, prostitution and extortions.
He emphasized the need for phasing out the menace of extortion and overcome rate of crimes during Ramzan and Eid festivities with a more concentrated and focussed approach .
He said that some of the social evils in their advanced stage had turned into major law and order problems which must be tackled at the earliest.
IGP Syed Kamal Shah and home secretary Brig Mukhtar Ahmed briefed the cabinet on the law and order situation in the province.
The cabinet was told that action was being taken against extortionists throughout the province and there had been arrests in this connection in some parts of Karachi.
The cabinet was told that the Anti-Car Lifting Cell had also been also reorganized to get the desired results an under the new plan a team of dedicated and honest officers headed by an SSP-level officer was deputed at the cell, while in every district of the province mini cells would be set up to improve recovery of stolen vehicles and keep check over the rising incidence of car snatching/ stealing.
The home secretary apprised the cabinet about the law and order situation in Sindh. He said that recently, in a meeting with the corps commander, the area Nazims had expressed satisfaction on the improved law and order situation as they saw good progress being made to curbing criminals in the upper Sindh.
He said that coordinated and coherent efforts would be undertaken to completely root out dacoits and other criminals from the society.
He claimed that during recent months many hardened criminals were either captured or killed during encounters.
The meeting also reviewed the prices of essential items and their availability. It was decided to make the system of bachat bazaars transparent and the authorities concerned were directed to take necessary steps to prevent these bazaars from becoming a source of corruption and extorti
