KGA lucky to win by 18 runs

By Our Sports Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 24: KGA Gymkhana scored their third successive victory in the Sixth Danish Trophy Ramazan cricket tournament, lucky to beat Young Students XI by 18 runs Saturday, at the KGA ground.

Having first use of the home wicket, KGA were in dire straits tottering at 65 for five. But sound batting by Calvin Gonsalves (30), Freddie Dcruze (27), Andre Bernard (24) and Jonathan Rodrigues (20), enabled their team reach 159 for nine in the 20 allotted overs.

Irfan Inayat (3-22) opening the attack, was the pick of the bowlers for Young Students XI. He was ably supported by Johnny Anthony (2-26) and Asif Hayat (2-35).

Chasing 160 runs for victory, Young Students XI looked certain for victory, cruising at 113 for three. But the match took a dramatic change as the last seven wickets tumbled down for 28 runs. Leg-spinner Imran Bashir (3-17) was responsible for the collapse.

Irfan Inayat also excelled with the willow, while scoring 53 runs. Zubair Khan with a quick 28 and Nadeem Javeed 20 runs also batted well.

Sunday’s fixture: KGA Gymkhana v Young Saddar CC, 1-30 p.m.
