KARACHI, Nov 22: Mohammad Qasim, adjudged the best goalkeeper in the recently concluded 23rd Champions Trophy tournament in Rotterdam, Holland, has applied for the post of a constable in the Punjab Police for a regular source of income.
Qasim is employed on contract basis with the Allied Bank of Pakistan for the past few years, but after all these years of service to the bank and country as a hockey player of international repute, he has never been regularised.
Strong rumours are afloat that the management of the Allied Bank is considering to abolish is Sports Department. If this happens to come about, plenty of sportsmen connected with the bank would lose their jobs.
As the Pakistan Hockey Federation has also been unable to safeguard and protect the interest of the national hockey players and in view of prevailing state of uncertainty for ensuring job security in the coming years, Qasim had no alternative but to apply to the Punjab Police for ensuring job security.
