By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 22: Two activists of Muttahida Quami Movement were gunned down and several shops were set on fire in Baldia Town by a rival group on Thursday, following the recovery of body of one Mohammad Shafeeq who had been missing for the last several days.

Tension griped the Baldia Town after the recovery of decomposed body of Mohammad Shafeeq, 23, from a drain in Baldia on Thursday.

Police said following the identification of Mohammad Shafeeq, the house of Yaqoob Madda where several shops are located was set on fire by Shafiq’s supporters in Dilawar Mohallah, Baldia Town.

Later, Shafiq’s supporters barged into the house of Shaukat Lala, 27, and shot him dead.

The victim died on the spot. His body was not brought to hospital for postmortem by his relatives.

While returning from Shaukat’s house, they spotted Yaqoob Madda and opened fire at him.

The victim was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by doctors.

There were reports of intermittent aerial firing on Thursday night.

SSP West Dr Tariq Khokhar told Dawn that the killings were a result of friction between criminal gangs, having links with some political groups.

Earlier, the body of Mohammad Shafeeq, was sent to the Civil Hospital for postmortem, where doctors said the body was four to five days old and had a bullet wound in his head.
