LAHORE, Nov 21: No camp training was held even on the second day of the national football training camp due to the absence of probables and coaches.
The camp was to begin at the Model Town ground on Nov 20 to prepare Pakistan Senior team for the SAF Gold Cup scheduled for Dhaka from Jan 25 to Feb 4 and the Under-23 team for the ninth SAF Games to be held at Islamabad in March-April next year.
Two coaches are appointed for the camp training but only Siddique Sheikh reached here in the afternoon while there was no information about the arrival of the second coach Akhtar Mohyuddin.
The response from the probables of the camp was also was disappointing. So far only four players Shahid, Aamir Riaz, Asadullah and Mohammad Arif have reported out of a total 38 probables.
Siddique Sheikh told Dawn that he was unable to start the camp with such a thin gathering of the players.
He said that his arrival at Lahore was delayed due to a medical emergency at home. However, he said that he had no information about the arrival of Akhtar Mohyuddin.
He said that due to Ramazan only one session would be held from 1.30pm to 4pm.
RAMAZAN SOCCER: Eight clubs are taking part in the Lahore Inter-Club Ramazan-ul-Mubarik football championship to be held at the Iqbal Sports Complex from Nov 26 to Dec 2.
One of the prominent clubs of Lahore, the Flying Horse, however, was not invited for the tournament.
The clubs have been divided into two groups “A” and “B”.In group “A” Nadeem Club, Pensi Club, Moughalpura Heroes Club and Samanabad Club are included. The group “B” comprises Shaheen Club, Burt Club, Akhtar Abdur Rehman Club and Universal Club.
The first round will be held on league basis. Top teams of each group will play the final on Dec 2.
On the opening day, Nadeem Club will meet Samanabad Club while Shaheen Club will clash with Burt Club.
