Sit-in staged against likely retrenchment

By Our Correspondent

HUB, Nov 20: About 50 workers of Ismail Industries (Pvt) Ltd, Hub, fearing retrenchment staged a sit-in in front of the Tehsil Nazim office here on Monday.

They remained there for more than two hours and held talks with Tehsil Nazim Jamil Gichki.

They told the Nazim that the management of the company misbehaved with them and refused to give them the increase announced by the federal government. The federal government has recently set Rs2500 as the minimum wage for a worker in any industry or organization in the country.

They accused that the management of Ismail Industries of making just promises with no results and held it responsible for creating contract and daily wages system in LIEDA units.

The Tehsil Nazim, after hearing their problem, assured the workers that he would talk to the management and try to get the matter resolved.

Meanwhile, some reports say that some workers were badly beaten allegedly by the management staff on Monday morning.

“An FIR has also been lodged against the workers for misconduct with the management,” the workers told Dawn alleging that the workers who had participated in the sit-in had also been dismissed from services.
