GUJRANWALA, Nov 20: District police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested the dacoits who shot dead a trader and looted valuables from his house in Chianwali village, Eminabad.

SSP Muhammad Aslam Tareen told newsmen that the dacoits looted cash, jewellery and electronic devices worth Rs1.5 million from expatriate Muhammad Jamil’s house some two weeks back. They shot him dead on resistance while his father and brother sustained injuries.

Suspicious of police involvement following recovery of a police cap and a belt from the house, he said the team interrogated some police officials.

He claimed deceased’s close relative Jahangir confessed to his crime when interrogated in police custody.

Led by his information, he said the team raided the residences of the culprits and arrested them. He claimed the deceased had a monetary dispute with the culprits.

One of the culprits had fled to Spain, however, police would contact interpol for his early arrest, the SSP concluded.

DEATH SENTENCE: An additional district and sessions judge has awarded death sentence and a fine of Rs50,000 to Talib Husain in a murder case, here on Tuesday.

The convict will have to undergo rigorous imprisonment for six months in case of non-payment of fine.

The court also awarded six-year imprisonment and a fine of Rs6,000 to the convict in another case. He will have to undergo another six-month hard jail if he fail to pay the fine.

According to the prosecution, the convict killed his brother-in-law Sarwar Husain over suspicion of illicit relations with his sister in Eminabad on Oct 29, 2000.

WAR: Pakistan Shariat Council central secretary-general Maulana Zahidul Rashidi has said the war between Islam and western forces entered a new phase with the surrender of Taliban in Kabul.

He expressed his concern over merciless killing of people in Afghanistan at the hands of US and its allies.

Meanwhile, the local Pak-Afghan Defence Council on Tuesday announced in a press release that an anti-US rally would be taken out on Nov 23 at Tower Chowk.
