Fresh Indian bid to raise pillars

SIALKOT, Nov 20: The Chenab Rangers thwarted three major Indian attempts of fencing Chhumb Joriyaan, Bajwat and Shakargarh sectors here late Monday night and destroyed two of its defensive pillars near the Jammu sector.

Official sources said six houses were damaged by Indian firing in Chhumb Joriyaan and Shakargarh sectors on Tuesday.

They said the Indian security forces continued firing on Pakistani border villages in Chhumb Joriyaan, Bajwat, Chaprar, Sucheetgarh, Harpal, Kingra, Bajrigarh, Charwa, Jammu, Akhnor, Oori, Zafarwal and Shakargarh sectors, disrupting paddy harvesting.

LOOTED: Four dacoits looted cash, gold ornaments, TV sets, VCRs and other valuables worth Rs1 million in Hundal village, Saddar, on Monday night.

The armed men forced their entry into the houses of Abdul Salam and their neighbours and fled after looting cash and valuables.

Villagers have protested against the rising incidents of dacoity in the area, and demanded early arrest of the accused.

NO COMPENSATION: Two months have passed, but no compensation has so far been announced for the families of the recent blast victims.

On Sept 19, six labourers were killed while 44 others were injured in a bomb blast in Naikapura, Pul Aik, Sialkot city, on the Sialkot-Pasrur Road.

When contacted, a spokesman for the district government avoided to give any comment in this regard.

GAS LOADSHEDDING: People have protested against unscheduled loadshedding of gas in Sialkot and Daska city.

Reportedly, gas supply often remains suspended for several hours especially at Sehr and Iftar time in almost all congested areas, including Model Town, Prem Nagar, Water Works, Pooran Nagar, Nishat Park, Rangpura, Hajipura, Naikapura, Mubarakpura, Green Wood Street, Pakka Garha and Raam Talai, besides the Daska city.

Citizens have urged the authorities concerned to take notice of the situation for early redressal of their grievances in this regard.

PROPOSALS SOUGHT: The Punjab government has sought proposals from the Sialkot district government for early construction of two new jails.

During his visit to the Sialkot district jail about two months ago, Garrison Commander Maj-Gen Abdul Jabbar had announced to establish two new jails, one each in Sialkot and Narowal.

Sources said the district government had completed a paper work in this regard.
