KARACHI, Nov 20: At least 22 vehicles — 12 cars and 10 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in parts of the city on Tuesday, police sources said.
However, the police officially declared the number of taken away vehicles as 11 — five cars and six motorcycles.
The police claimed the recovery of two cars and four motorcycles on Tuesday. On Monday, two cars and two motorbikes were recovered.
The sources in the police maintained that it was not the responsibility of the Anti-Car Lifting Cell to check the carjacking in the whole city. The district police were equally responsible to check the criminal activities.
Officials in the district police said the provincial police chief and the city police chief had directed the DSPs and the SHOs to intensify the patrolling in their respective jurisdictions and increased security. But they claimed that the fuel supply had been stopped by the government owing to insufficient funds. “How can we increase patrolling in our areas without filling fuels in our vehicles”, said the head of a police station in District West.
The officials said if the patrolling was intensified and the amount of the fuel was generated by extorting money from people, it was also reported in the press.
Ultimately, the low ranking police officials were again the target of the wrath of high police officials.
“I don’t know why the police high-ups and the government cannot understand that without giving adequate funds, things cannot be rectified and the crime graph cannot be lowered”, said a police official.
