ISLAMABAD, Nov 20: Germany is exploring possibilities of greater cooperation with Pakistan in various fields and has identified education as one of the key areas for lending economic assistance and technical support.
This was stated by German Ambassador, Dr Christoph Brummer, who called on Education Minister Zobaida Jalal here on Tuesday.
He said that they had been successfully working on various educational projects in Pakistan mainly at the primary level and now they wanted to work on new projects in the primary and higher education sector.
He said they would be working on newly-designed projects with inbuilt sustainability in the primary and higher education sector and would also be improving the on-going projects.
The ambassador also informed the minister about the details of the Debt Swap for Human Development being offered by the German government.
The education minister expressed her gratitude for the assistance being provided by the German government in the education sector specifically the DAAD fellowships.
Ms Jalal said they would welcome technical and financial support in teacher training projects and introduction of technical stream at secondary level.
She said in the higher education sector the government would be working on strengthening of research facilities and science laboratories, creation of annual development fund for universities and provision of greater number of PhD. scholarships.
The ministry of education and religious affairs are collaborating for mainstreaming the Madrassahas and HR education is being incorporated in the curricula.
