KARACHI, Nov 18: The Pakistan People’s Party said on Sunday that talks about handing over Sindh’s land to Punjab could create more dangers for the federation in the present difficult situation.

In a statement, the PPP Sindh President, Nisar Khuhro, said that it was imperative for the provincial chief executive, Governor Mohammedmian Soomro, to take a clear-cut stand on the situation instead of forming so-called committees in this respect.

Under his rule, he said, the province had already suffered dearly and the province was also passing through a crisis owing to high unemployment, downsizing, shortage of water, etc.

In a separate statement, PPP central executive committee member and former minister Nawab Yousuf Talpur accused the military government of tacitly patronizing elements opposed to woman as prime minister to block the way of the twice-elected prime minister, Benazir Bhutto, for the third term.

Certain groups within the military government were also nourishing and facilitating smaller parties to join hands to oppose woman as prime minister, he alleged.

“New alliances with fundamentalist leanings are being propped up to block the way of the PPP and its leadership,” he said.
