KARACHI: Chronology of conflicts in South Asia

By Our Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 17: While efforts are being made to free South Asia from causes of tension and conflict, the International Relations Department of the University of Karachi has compiled a chronology which tells a lot as to why the process of cooperation has not been unleashed in the region since 1947.

The “Chronology of Conflict and Cooperation in South Asia 1947-2001” is the first organized effort by a research team headed by Dr Moonis Ahmar, to single out such events in South Asia from Aug 14, 1947 till Aug 14, 2001, which somehow are related to the process of conflict and cooperation in the region.

The book, launched under a programme on peace studies and conflict resolution, not only focus on India-Pakistan relations but also gives information about other regional countries.

Fifty-four years of history of conflict and cooperation in South Asia will give enough insight about the gap in hope and reality, optimism and pessimism, fear and courage.
