LAHORE, Nov 15: Mohammad Munir  (PTCL)  and  Matloob  Ahmad (Lahore Gymkhana) shared the lead on the second day with aggregate of 138 in the professional event of the All Pakistan Garrison Open Golf Tournament at the Lahore Garrison course Thursday.

Mohammad was trailing at the fourth position on the opening day (Wednesday) after producing a card of two-under-70, but he played skillfully and with lot of concentration to earn an inspiring four-under-par-68 on the second day.

 Losing not a single stroke throughout the day, Munir had only one birdie on the first nine at hole no 9. Coming back, Munir was aggressive and earned three consecutive birdies on the last three holes i.e 16th, 17th and the 18th that elevated him to the first position.

Matloob (Gymkhana) who was in second place on the opening day with an excellent five under-67, posted a one-under-71 (35+36) to emerge as the joint leader with Munir.

The significant feature of the defending champion Matloob’s fine performance was that he had taken a bad start by losing two strokes over the first hole. But mentally strong, he played a flawless game in the remaining part of the day finishing it with three birdies at the 2nd, 4th and the 8th.

The first day leader, Imdad Husain lost ground and ended up in second spot with aggregate of 141 (66+75). Imdad who gave a carded six-under on the first day, had a bad day as finished three over-75 (40+35).

He accomplished the first nine hole losing five strokes and without any birdie. He lost one stroke each at the 1st, 5th, 7th and two over the 5th. Returning home, Imdad again lost a stroke at the 12th. He improved his card by getting three birdies at the 15th, 16th and the 17th but again lost a stroke on the final hole to finish poor 75.

Two strokes away Mohammad Tariq (Islamabad) was in third position. Tariq had two-day break-up of 71+72=143. Tariq did the first nine at one-under-35 and the last one-over-37. His today’s card lifted him from the fifth position to the third.

Mohammad Sultan (Gymkhana) and Abbas Ali with aggregate of at par-144 each were joint fourth.

 At one over-145, Manzoor Ahmad (Gymkhana) was following Sultan at the fifth position.

Seasoned campaigner, Ghulam Nabi and Mohammad  Siddique again faltered and could manage identical card of one-over-73 each to bracketed at the sixth position with aggregate of 146 apiece.

Topseed Shabbir Iqbal (Islamabad), however, remained off-colour in the tournament. He produced card of two-over-par-74 on each day to make total of 148.

In the amateur section, Shahid Javed (Gymkhana)  with aggregate of 137 (69+68) maintained his top position both the in the gross and net events.

Shahid completed the first journey excellently with four under-32 but returned back little expensively at one-over- 37. Javed earned birdies on the 1st, 4th, 5th, 15th and the 16th while he only lost stroke on the 11th.

Ghazanfar (Rawalpindi) carded four under-68 (35+33) to make his aggregate of 141 and occupied the second position. Ghazanfar recorded six birdies at the erd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 12th and the 14th while lost strokes on the 2nd and the 8th.

Asif Mehdi (Garrison) with aggregate of 146 (74+72) and Murad Ali Khan (Gymkhana) with 150 (75+75) were at the third and the fourth position.

One handicapper Shahid with net score of 135 was leading the amateur net section. Similarly Ghazanfar  (one handicapper) was also following him at the second spot with net score of 139.

Three handicapper Asif Mehdi (140) and four handicapper Murad Ali Khan (142) were at the third and fourth position, respectively.

The two-day ladies event concluded on Thursday. Jamila Jabbar was the winner while Shahzadi Gulfam and Bela Azam took the second and the third position, respectively.

Tomorrow (Friday) is the last day of the three-day event.
