KARACHI, Nov 14: A 14-member delegation of the Action Committee for Civic Problems met city Nazim Naimatullah Khan on Tuesday.

It submitted various suggestions to improve the transport system and revive the Karachi Circular Railway operation.

The delegation, led by its convener Baseer Naveed, apprised the city Nazim of the importance of the KCR.

DCO Shafiqur Rehman Paracha was also present at the meeting.

The suggestions submitted stated that the KCR system was created in the mid 1960s on the basis of the then population and it needed to be improved with some changes; the city government with the approval of the city’s elected representatives should form a committee comprising representatives of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, railway experts and town Nazims, which would make the KCR viable; the committee should be independent to run trains and issue route permits from different stations.

The delegation proposed that the financial resources should be explored; an independent committee should issue prize bonds of Rs10,000 denomination and approach philanthropists to raise funds.
