GUJRANWALA, Nov 13: Dacoits took away cash, gold ornaments and valuables in four strikes in and around the city on Tuesday.

Four armed men barged into the house of Chaudhry Lal Din in Qila Deedar Singh by scaling the boundary wall. They locked the inmates in a room and escaped with cash, jewellery and valuables worth Rs150,000.

Five robbers made their way into the house of a farmer, Muhammad Younis, in Tetley village, and made off with cash, gold ornaments and electronic gadgets.

A wagon carrying a marriage procession to Ahmad Nagar from Wazirabad was intercepted by three bandits near Kaka Kola village. The bandits deprived the passengers of cash, jewellery and wristwatches.

Six highwaymen snatched cash and wristwatches from many passers-by on the Naushera Virkan Road.

DEATH SENTENCE: An additional district and sessions judge on Tuesday awarded death sentence and a fine of Rs200,000 to a convict in a murder case.

The convict will have to undergo rigorous imprisonment for six months in case of non-payment of the fine.

According to the prosecution, Ishaq had killed Muhammad Ayub over an old enmity in Dowliwali Wahando village on May 18, 1997.

Judge Tariq Abbasi acquitted two co-accused, Shahbaz Ahmad and Bilquis Bibi, in the same case giving them the benefit of the doubt.
