TOBA TEK SINGH, Nov 12: The government has been urged to start work on the proposed Kalabagh Dam to meet the irrigation water requirement in the country.

This demand was made by the district council in a unanimous resolution passed at a meeting here on Monday with Naib Nazim Haji Ghulam Rabbani in the chair.

Speaking on the occasion, the district Naib Nazim and Nazims Mian Muhammad Shoaib, Chaudhry Saifullah Cheema, Tariq Saeed and others expressed their concern over the shortage of canal water.

They also complained that influential farmers had breached various water courses due to which the water could not reach at tail ends. This shortage of water brought on destruction of crops and trees worth millions of rupees, they said.

Through another resolution, the meeting demanded the sugar mills should be ordered to immediately start the crushing season.

The house also approved the resolution put forth by Toba town union council Nazim Tariq Saeed for starting MA English and MSc biology classes on self-finance scheme in the local Government Municipal Degree College.

MARTYRES: Five young mujahideen of the Toba Tek Singh district were martyred during jihad against US-led forces and Northern Alliance in Afghanistan.

Religious organizations to whom these mujahideen belonged passed these informations to their parents here on Monday.
