LAHORE, Nov 12: Police claimed on Monday having arrested the two gangsters who had looted three policemen in Sattukatla on Saturday.

A police patrol signalled a rickshaw in Sattukatla. Two men alighted from the three-wheeler, whipped out pistols and deprived the three policemen of cash, wristwatches, a wireless set, official weapons and the official motorcycle.

Footprints of the robbers were followed and all nearby localities were raided by two police teams. First, the teams found the wireless set in nearby fields, and later the official weapons and the motorcycle were traced that had been abandoned in deserted places.

Following an eyewitness who had seen one of the robbers abandoning the motorcycle, the police teams raided a village and arrested both of the gangsters, later identified as Shahzad and Tariq. They were also identified by the policemen.

During interrogation, the robbers confessed to having injured Punjab Institute of Cardiology DMS Dr Ali Hasan. They also confessed to having committed 15 other crimes.

Further investigation is under way.

Three killed: Three people were killed in two accidents on Monday.

Afzaal, 28, and Arshad, 25, were going to Shahdara on a motorcycle when a rashly driven tractor-trolley hit them. They were taken to the Mayo Hospital where they succumbed to injuries. The bodies were sent to the city mortuary for autopsy.

A case was registered against the absconding tractor driver.

Fakhar Aalam, 35, a Railway employee, was on his way home in Garhi Shahu on a motorcycle when a speeding wagon knocked him down. He was taken to the Shalamar Hospital where he died a few hours after arrival.

The wagon driver fled from the scene.

Police failure: South Cantonment police have failed to arrest a car driver who was reportedly involved in an accident which left a woman dead and four other people injured a month ago.

Manzoor Aalam told Dawn that he and his family members were going to a church on Oct 14 by a car when another car (SAC-8855), violating the one-way rule, hit them. As a result of which, he said, his car struck against an electric pole, killing his wife Elizabeth and injuring his children Kalim Christopher, Rohi and Naeeem and his sister Mrs Sadiq Zaman.

He said the car driver was later identified as one Zubair. He claimed that all quarters concerned had been approached but to no avail.
