PESHAWAR, Nov 12: The NWFP government has decided to establish a district education cadre at primary level for the uninterrupted and smooth running of the academic year all over the province.

The Governor, Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah, at a high-level meeting of the Education Department (Primary) here at the Governor’s House on Monday, directed for the formation of the district education cadre.

He emphasized that the teaching staff posted in districts other than their parent ones, may be given an option so that the matters concerning the development of district cadre were settled once for all.

The governor said that this would be a final arrangement and no one would be allowed to disturb the formation of the cadre. The meeting focused on the formation of the education cadre at district level and discussed other related matters in detail.

He said options would be sought from the teaching staff to facilitate the setting up of the new district-level arrangement, because once it was established teachers would have to serve their remaining service period within their own districts.

The governor directed to ensure the decentralization of the posting/transfers made on the recommendations of the committees comprising elected representatives and education department.

He said that this should be done in a transparent manner so that the corruption, irregularities and nepotism could be given an end in the education sector.

He said the government was against the centralization of the power.

The meeting was also attended by the provincial education minister, Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gilani, secretary education and other officials.
