WTO begins crucial meeting


DOHA, Nov 9: Ministers from more than 140 countries began a five-day meeting in Qatar on Friday aimed at launching a new round of global free trade talks that supporters say will provide huge benefit to the world economy.

Brushing aside safety concerns stemming from the Sept 11 attacks on New York and Washington, the World Trade Organization (WTO) met under tight security to seek agreement for formal negotiations to begin early next year.—Reuters
