KARACHI, Nov 9: Various parts of the city faced an acute water shortage on Friday in the wake of a power breakdown which occurred at a feeder of Dhabeji pumping station on Thursday.
The water scarcity problem in certain localities assumed a serious proportion on Friday as most of private tankers remained off the road in the wake of a strike observed in the city.
Some private tankers were, however, seen plying main thoroughfares of the city in the evening.
Pumping of water to the city through Dhabeji’s (4th Phase) pumping station remained suspended for about seven hours on Thursday, causing a shortfall of over 28 million gallons of water.
Though the impact of the short supply of water was felt in almost all parts of the city, complaints of scant supply with a low pressure were received from Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Landhi, Korangi, Saudabad, Malir, Khokhrapar, Sindhi Muslim Housing Society, Bahadurabad No 3, Mehmoodabad and parts of Lyari.
Residents complained that they suffered on account of water closure and even the private tankers could not supply water owing to the strike.
Complaints of water shortage were also received from Old City Area and parts of Lyari, Bara Board, Pak Colony and different sectors of North Karachi.
