LAHORE, Nov 2: The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan chairperson Afrasiab Khattak on Friday described as disappointing the posting of another military official as chairman of the National Accountability Bureau.
In a statement issued here, Mr Khattak said the decision also went against the Supreme Court view, expressed earlier this year, that the future NAB chief should be from the judiciary.
“As with previous measures taken by the serving regime, the suggests a complete lack of respect for the institutions of state,” he said.
Mr Khattak said the appointment of a retired judge or a similarly respected figure to the NAB could have helped negate the impression that the organization was biased.
Hoping that the authorities would refrain doing so in future, he said confidence in the integrity of NAB was crucial to helping it tackle corruption in the country.
