KARACHI, Oct 29: More political leaders have condemned the terrorist attack in a church in Bahawalpur on Sunday in which 15 Christians and a police constable had been killed.
A delegation of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, led by Deputy Convener of the coordination committee of the party, Nasrin Jalil, called on Bishop Simon Preira at St Patrick’s Cathedral and condoled the death of innocent people in Bahawalpur. The delegation also delivered a condolence message to the bishop from the party chief, Altaf Husain, on the Bahawalpur tragedy, said a press release.
The delegation assured the bishop of the party’s support for the Christian community in Sindh. It also emphasized that it was the government’s duty to protect the life and property of the religious minorities in the country. Other members of the Muttahida delegation were Kunwar Khalid Younus and Khalid Bin Waleed.
In a statement, the Chairperson of the PPP (SB) and chief of the Pakistan National Conference, Ghinwa Bhutto, condemned the killing of worshippers in St Dominic Church in Bahawalpur. The attack on the church was a conspiracy aimed at creating tension between the minorities and the majority community, she said.
Speaking at a gathering of councillors and other members of Hindu and Christian communities the other day, she said her party had all regards for the minorities and their rights and safety occupied priority in the party manifesto.
