Franchised bus service in Multan from next month

By A Correspondent

MULTAN, Oct 27: A franchised inter-city bus service will be started in Multan from next month.

Initially, 50 buses would be plied on various city routes, Multan DCO Azam Suleman said on Saturday.

He was talking to newsmen after signing an agreement on behalf of the Punjab government in this regard with a transport company. Amanullah Khan inked the agreement for Khan Brothers (Pvt) Ltd. District Nazim Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi was also present on the occasion.

The DCO said Multan would be the third city of the Punjab where franchised intra-city bus service was being provided.

He said that the number of buses would be gradually increased. He said each bus would have the capacity of 100 passengers. The transport company would be given a piece of land near Dera Adda on lease to set up its main terminal.

NO MEETING WITH DCO: The Lahore High Court Bar Association, Multan bench, office-bearers had no formal meeting with the Multan district coordination officer on Friday, says a press release.

According to a press release issued on Saturday, DCO Azam Suleman asked Bar President Irfan Wyne and other office-bearers on Friday to come to his office for a cup of tea. It was an informal meeting and no one formally spoke on the occasion. But Saturday editions of local newspapers carried the photographs of the meeting with the report that the “DCO addressed the Bar leaders”.

The release said that during the informal meeting an official photographer was taking snaps. “Both the photographer and the DCO were warned that neither news nor photograph of the meeting would be released. But the DCO got published news and the photograph of the meeting to attain certain objectives.”
