Wajahat, Ijaz put ABL in control

LAHORE, Oct 22: Enterprising batting by Test rejects Wajahatullah Wasti and Ijaz Ahmed Junior, who shared a third wicket partnership of 111, enabled Allied Bank reach 233 for five in reply to Sui Gas’ first innings score of 255 on the second day of the Patron’s Trophy Grade-I tie at LCCA Ground Monday.

Aaley Haider (27) and wicket-keeper Humayun Farhat further consolidated ABL’s position during the unbroken sixth wicket partnership that has so far realized 43 runs.

Wajahat and Ijaz came together after openers Mohammad Nawaz (21) and the left-handed Usman Tariq (34) were out with 65 on the board.

 Wajahat hit eight fours and faced 157 balls in 189-minute 66 while Ijaz laced his knock with seven boundaries in his 155-ball 60 in a stay of 182 minutes.

Off-spinner Kashif Shafi picked up three for 87 while paceman Azhar Abbas and left-arm spinner Mohammad Hussain claimed  one wicket each for 28 and 52 runs, respectively.

Earlier, Sui Gas resumed their first innings in the morning at 232 for seven and lost the remaining wickets for the addition of just 33 runs.

Left-arm spinner Mohammad Zahid finished with four for 84, paceman Rana Naveed-ul-Hasan three for 70 and Test off-spinner Arshad Khan two for 59.
