Tennis team excluded

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, Oct 18: Pakistan has excluded its women tennis team from its contingent which will take part in the 3rd Islamic Countries Women Solidarity Games to be held at Tehran (Iran) from Oct 24.

It was learnt that Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) showed no interest in sending a women’s team for this competition.

Pakistan is competing in only four disciplines swimming, athletics, badminton and table tennis. No trials were conducted for picking the teams and it had been decided to retain the same players selected for the postponed ninth SAF Games.

Surprisingly, it was learnt, the Pakistan contingent will reach Tehran hours before the start of the games.

The sources said that Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) is finalising a 43-member contingent with 32 sportswomen, 10 officials a chef de mission, secretary and a lady doctor for the games.

Twelve girls with three officials, 10 athletes and three officials, and five players and two officials each for badminton and table tennis are included in the contingent.
