PO killed in ‘encounter’

GUJRAT, Oct 18: A notorious proclaimed offender was shot dead while his three accomplices were arrested on Thursday in an encounter with Karrianwala police near Awan Sharif.

A police spokesman told Dawn that police on a tip-off had besieged the hideout of POs Khalid alias Khala, Ejaz, Salahuddin, and Shafqat Abbas on the Awan Sharif-Karrianwala Road. On seeing police, the POs opened fire which was retaliated. The crossfire which continued for over an hour left Khalid dead. Later, his accomplices surrendered to police.

Police claimed that PO Khalid was involved in several cases of murder, dacoity and other heinous crimes.

KILLED: A man was killed on Thursday when his speeding car (MB-198) plunged into the lower Jhelum canal after skidding off the road near Mong, Mandi Bahauddin.
