Punters cheer for Martial Law
LAHORE, Oct 17: The name of “Martial Law” echoed at the Lahore Race Club (LRC) when a horse named “Martial Law” won the sixth and last race here Wednesday.
Incidentally, it was also the feature event.
Those who backed the grey gelding, Martial Law from five to one down to three to one were seen cheering and shouting Martial Law, Martial Law, at the top of their voices, without realising as to what they were saying.
The bay gelding is owned by the famous polo player Shah Shamyl Alam Shah, who happens to be the son of Lt.-Gen (retd.) Shah Rafi Alam and the maternal grandson of the Late Brigadier (retd.) Hesky Baig.
It may be noted that the late Brig Hesky Baig, was an internationally famous polo player who played against the world’s best.
Interestingly, the gelding Martial Law registered victory on his debut.
By naming his gelding as “Martial Law”, the polo player was perhaps reminiscing the active role played by his father, Lt. Gen. (retd,) Shah Rafi Alam, during General Zia-ul-Haq’s martial law in the country.
