KARACHI, Oct 15: The Home Department, government of Sindh, has issued the following press note on the city situation in the wake of the strike observed on Monday.
The workers of the Pak-Afghan Defence Council tried to disrupt civic life by burning old tyres and blocking roads in Karachi. The police and law-enforcement agencies used tear gas to disperse the unruly crowds.
No major untoward incident was reported throughout the city.
One person each was injured in New Karachi, Kalri and Baldia, when the miscreants opened fire. Three people received injuries from pelting of stones in Nazimabad, while two persons were injured in Bridge area.
The stones, thrown by an unruly mob, also hit a DSP of Mithadar. All roads were kept cleared for the traffic throughout the day.
Some miscreants set ablaze firewood adjacent to Wazir Mansion railway station in district West. A mob also attempted to cause damage to a police post in New Karachi Industrial area but was dispersed by the police.
The police arrested 102 people for indulging in violence.
The overall situation in other parts of the province remained peaceful except in Hyderabad, where the miscreants tried to set on fire a Wapda Pickup, which was saved from total damage by the law-enforcement agencies.
A press note issued by the Karachi police said they arrested 130 persons in various parts of the five districts for the violation of law, and holding illegal gatherings besides their involvement in stoning and inciting people to violence.
In Karachi there was no major incident of arson or destruction of property, the note said.—APP
