Nine hurt in Valley

SRINAGAR, Oct 12: Nine people were injured in sporadic violence after Friday prayers in occupied Kashmir.

Soon after the prayers a crowd of about 1,000 protesters emerged from Srinagar’s Jamia Masjid, shouting anti-US slogans. Police fired teargas and shot over the protesters’ heads to disperse the crowd, injuring six people, a police spokesman said.

Another demonstration took place in the Maisuma area of Srinagar, where activists from the Dukhtaran-i-Millat, a Kashmiri women’s group, took to the streets shouting anti-Indian and anti-US slogans.
