‘Moral growth to keep country alive’

By Our Staff Correspondent

FAISALABAD, Oct 12: Former chief justice of Pakistan Ajmal Mian conferred degrees and awards on the Faisalabad Hamdard University’s students who passed out in 97.

Miss Naveen and Mohsin Allah Ditta were awarded gold medals for distinguished performance in their subjects.

Addressing participants of the first convocation of the institution, Ajmal Mian urged the students to stand out for the cause of nation whenever it needed.

He said only two per cent of the population had a privilege to successfully complete higher education.

Graduates, he said, should feel the need for nurturing morality in life.

“Moral autonomy stems from the capabilities of understanding the need of moral life, taking decisions for which we are responsible and living a purposeful life,” he added.

In the world of globalization and rapid change, the country was fast losing front seat in the international forums, he complained.

The ex-chief justice said decisions emanated from principles of morality and their implementation could pull the country out of the present quagmire.

The purpose of education, he continued, would be to achieve goals other than mercenary.

He said the process of learning knew no limit. “In successfully completing your courses, you have completed part of a mission.”

Paying rich tributes to late Hakim Saeed, the chief justice said he led an exemplary life, a source to understand the value of life.
