GUJRANWALA, Oct 10: Women councillors of the tehsil city council have demanded Health authorities to post required number of medical officers for conducting post-mortem of women’s bodies at the DHQ Hospital.

Speaking at a meeting held here on Wednesday, women councillors said the DHQ Hospital’s administration had most of the time referred the autopsy of women’s bodies to THQ hospitals Wazirabad and Kamoke for want of MO.

They said miseries of the heirs mounted when hospitals’ staff at Wazirabad and Kamoke also declined to conduct the autopsy, saying that bodies did not belong to their jurisdiction.

Taking action against a DHQ Hospital’s lady doctor, the Health secretary had suspended her from service on refusing to conduct an autopsy of a slain school teacher some two months ago.

They demanded that the authorities concerned should immediately fill all vacant posts of women medical officers in the DHQ Hospital.

ATTACK CONDEMNED: Leaders of various religious, political parties, business community, jihadi and student organizations condemned the US-led attack on Afghanistan.

They termed these attacks acts of terrorism as no evidence against Usama bin Laden had been provided to the Taliban government. They condemned the killing of innocent people in Afghanistan on the pretext of eliminating terrorism.

Meanwhile, religious parties and jihadi outfits took out a protest rally against the US and its allies in Hafizabad.

They chanted slogans against the US and put to torch an effigy of president Bush. They demanded that attacks on Afghanistan should be stopped immediately, otherwise they would wage a jihad against the US-led forces.

IMPRISONMENT: An additional district and sessions judge on Wednesday awarded 15-year imprisonment with a fine of Rs50,000 and 30 lashes to a convict in a hudood ordinance case.

He will undergo a six-month hard jail if he defaults in the payment of fine.

The court acquitted co-accused Muhammad Ikram by giving him the benefit of the doubt.

According to the prosecution, convict Naveed Shahzad had sodomized a student, Arsalan of Ladheywala Warraich village, on Nov 25, 1998.

Meanwhile, a woman and her brother-in-law were sent to jail after the rejection of their bail application by an additional district and sessions judge in a murder case.

According to the prosecution, Asia Bibi along with her brother-in-law Anwer Elahi poisoned to death her husband Asad Raza a few days ago.
