KARACHI: SBTE chairman shot dead

KARACHI, Oct 10: The chairman of the Sindh Board of Technical Education was shot dead in an ambush by unidentified motorcyclists near his North Nazimabad residence on Wednesday.

Syed Hasan, 57, was returning home in Block-H, North Nazimabad, and as his official car stopped in front of his house, two men riding a motorbike sprayed him with bullets. His driver, Saleemuddin, escaped unhurt.

Witnesses said four occupants in a car were providing cover to the motorcyclists, who rode close to the car and opened fire on it.

The chairman’s driver got out of the car and ran for life into a nearby house. The following car and the motorcycle riders sped away.

The victim was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The doctors said the victim had received multiple bullet wounds.

Born in 1944 at Aligarh, Syed Hasan was recently transferred and posted as chairman of the board. Earlier he had been the head of the Government Saifee Technical College in North Nazimabad.

Father of two daughters and a son, Syed Hasan was a grandson of renowned scholar Syed Suleman Nadvi.

A senior police official said investigations had been initiated to determine the motive behind the killing and efforts were being made to identity the killers. He said the computer sketches of the killers would be prepared to be help trace the culprits.

CONDEMNATION: Sindh Governor Mohammedmian Soomro has condemned the killing of Syed Hasan, adds APP.

He directed the authorities to make all-out efforts to arrest those responsible for the assassination and bring them to justice.

The governor also offered condolences to the bereaved family.

The governor also recalled the services of the deceased in the field of education and said these would be remembered for long.
