RAWALPINDI, Oct 8: Thousands of students pledged to fight with their Muslim brethren against the US-led coalition forces as pro-Taliban rallies continued in Rawalpindi on Monday.

The participants demonstrated their support for Osama Bin Laden and condemned the attack on Afghanistan.

Soon after the coalition forces launched attack on Afghanistan Sunday night, activists of religious organizations took to the streets in Rawalpindi and raised slogans against the attack.

Monday morning, hundreds of students from different colleges boycotted classes and held protest rallies. Students of Government Degree College Satellite Town, marched towards Postgraduate college Asghar Mall.

But the students of Asghar mall were not permitted to come out of their college premises by the heavy police contingent present there. Student leaders addressed their fellow students and condemned the US attack on Afghanistan.

Punjab JUI Nazim Nasrullah Khan said that 20,000 students had signed a document pledging to fight with their Muslim brethren against the Americans.

Later, about 250 JI activists held a protest rally against the US and marched from Liaquat Road to Fawara chowk.

The protesters, led by Maulana Abdul Jalil, were carrying banners with anti-America and pro-Taliban slogans. They were also holding posters of Osama bin Laden.

The leaders who spoke on the occasion condemned President Gen Pervez Musharraf and warned the government that they would besiege PTV, if “propaganda” was not stopped.
