KARACHI: Edhi shifted 500 injured to hospitals

KARACHI, Oct 8: During the month of September, 540 wounded and 17 dead bodies, victims of road traffic accidents and shootings in the city, were shifted to hospitals by the Edhi Foundation ambulances.

Moreover, 15,180 patients were either shifted to the hospitals from their residences or vice-versa, during the month by the ambulance service, a spokesman for the Edhi Foundation said on Sunday.

Similarly, 629 patients and bodies were transported from the city to various destinations in interior of Sindh, Punjab, NWFP and Balochistan by the Foundation, during the past month.

As many as 825 drug addicts, referred from different police stations, were admitted to the Edhi village, where they would be treated for rehabilitation, the spokesman added.

He said that 180 destitute were also admitted to the Edhi village during the month.

51 lost children were admitted to the Edhi Children Home in Korangi, and 14 such children were repatriated to their families.

At the Edhi North Karachi Centre for Destitute and Mentally ill Women, 137 destitute and ill women were admitted for treatment.
