KARACHI, Oct 7: The city Nazim, Naimatullah Khan, has said that the city government would soon release funds for Karachi’s 178 union councils like it provided funds to the town councils.
Speaking at a meeting with the Nazims of Baldia Town and the UCs on Sunday, he said that the city government would not interfere in the affairs of the town and union councils. Instead, it would provide all types of assistance and cooperation to the UCs, he added.
The delegation apprised the Nazim of the problems pertaining to the under-construction roads of Khushhal Pakistan Programme, cleaning of sewerage drains, repair of water supply lines, shifting of cattle from residential areas, installation and repair of street lights, health and education.
Naimatullah Khan told the delegation that under the new system of government, the town and union councils had powers to undertake many development works in their respective areas. For this purpose, he said, the councils would be provided funds separately. However, he said, due to the paucity of funds the system was not properly working for the time being.
The city Nazim said he would contact the provincial government for the appointment of sweepers on vacant posts, which would help further improve cleanliness situation in the city. He assured the Nazims of solution of problems of their areas.
Meanwhile, the city Nazim has directed the administration to install and repair streetlights in the city within 30 days.
He directed to install poles, where they are required, and change the fused bulbs on important roads and streets.
He particularly referred to the lighting of University Road, Jail Chowrangi, Hassan Square, Shaheed-i-Millat Road, Tipu Sultan Chowrangi, Hawkesbay Road, Mauripur Road, Jinnah Bridge, ICI Bridge, Fatima Jinnah Bridge (Lily Bridge), Liaqatabad Flyover, Shahrah- i-Pakistan, Shahrah- i- Ibne- Seena etc.
LAWYERS: The City Nazim has called upon the legal practitioners to play their role in development of the country and establishment of an Islamic welfare state.
Speaking at a reception in his honour, hosted by the Islamic Lawyers Movement Pakistan, Sindh, on Sunday, Naimatullah Khan said that the lawyers of the subcontinent had provided guidance to the people of India at every step during the Independence Movement.
He said Pakistan came into being under the leadership of a lawyer, and in Pakistani society, there was always a role for the lawyers to play.
President of Islamic Lawyers Movement, Sindh, Ismail Padhiar and others also spoke.—APP
