Wapda stage late fightback
KARACHI, Oct 5: Wapda conceded a first innings lead of 145 but staged a dramatic fight back to claim three Allied Bank wickets on the third day of the Patron’s Trophy Grade-I encounter at Sheikhupura Stadium Friday.
Off-spinner Aqeel Ahmed followed up his first innings haul of six for 181 with two more wickets as ABL reached 31 for three in their second innings for an overall lead of 186, says a message received here.
Earlier, Wapda added 180 to their Thursday’s score of 126 for two. Adil Nisar, playing a captain’s hand, struck 10 fours during patient knock of 85 off 256 deliveries.
In fact, Wapda were well placed at one point when they were 246 for four. But the remaining six wickets then fell for an addition of 60 runs.
Left-handed Rafiq Rehan was other major scorer with 44 after opener Bilal Khilji added just five to his overnight 43. Rafiq and Adil Nisar were involved in a fifth wicket stand worth 91.
Arshad Khan, the Test reject off-spinner, bowled 43 overs for his three for 72. Medium-pacer Rana Naveed-ul-Hasan also took three wickets but gave away 87 runs in 23.2 overs.
