PESHAWAR: Crisis management cell inaugurated

Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, Oct 5: NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah formally inaugurated a crisis management cell, which has been established in the provincial Home and Tribal Affairs Department.

Intelligence and information from the entire province and the adjacent tribal belt would be analysed and evaluated by experts deployed in the cell. The cell would also corroborate reports of various intelligence agencies, law-enforcement agencies and various government departments.

On the basis of these information, the experts would suggest remedial measures. The basic aim for the establishment of this cell is to review the advanced information and expected symptoms of any event to suggest prompt and timely response.

The governor was briefed about the operation, modus operandi and other related functions of the cell.

He was informed that intelligence and information stemming from the entire province and adjoining tribal areas would be gathered in the cell which is a new concept and under this new mechanism not only the law and order situation could be controlled but redressal to the people’s grievances in other sectors would also be sought. After the analysis and evaluation, the law-enforcement agencies would be involved in the process of implementation and the network of the new mechanism would be spread to all the districts etc.

The Governor underscored the need for close coordination amongst various intelligence agencies and departments to put the intelligence gathering mechanism on sound footing.

He issued directives to adopt modern communication techniques to ensure prompt and timely reaction to any event. The governor said the establishment of one set of things and implementation on that mechanism to achieve the desired results were two different tasks.

The governor said with the establishment of crisis management cell, this new concept had been translated into reality, which would ensure the collection, evaluation and analysis of information, coupled with the achievements of targets.
