KARACHI: SHC sets aside conviction

KARACHI, Oct 5: An appellate bench of Sindh High Court on Friday set aside conviction of ex-chief engineer of the KWSB, Misbahuddin Fareed, convicted by an Accountability Court on charges of ‘living beyond means’.

The bench, comprising Justice S A Rabbani and Justice Faiz Muhammad Qureshi, directed authorities to release him forthwith if not required in any other crime. The court allowed his appeal by giving him benefit of doubt.

The court on Oct 2 reserved verdict after hearing arguments of appellants counsel Azizullah Shaikh, while Amir Naqvi represented the National Accountability Bureau.

It was the contention of appellant’s counsel that prosecution did not prove charges against accused as the allegations against him were based on enmity.—PPI
